As an FP&A hiring manager, the number of queries I get regarding FP&A as a career are increasing by the day. Many job seekers are curious about the how would their career shape up if they choose FP&A. What surpises me is not only individuals from finance background, but many from consulting, analytics and even fintech background are keen on knowing about FP&A.
Hence, I compiled my thoughts in the below write up:-
High Demand: In the present dynamic business scenario, FP&A is a requirement from companies from all sectors-be it manufacturing, retail or service. The continuous need for financial strategy, planning, and risk management will keep FP&A professionals in high demand.
Growth Potential: There is a well-defined career path with opportunities for upward progression in this domain. A generic career trajectory would include the following:-
FP&A Analyst: Focus on data gathering, data sanitization, budgeting, forecasting, and basic management reporting.Senior FP&A Analyst: Financial modeling, complex analysis with commentary, and involvement in strategic discussions.FP&A Manager: Leadership role, team management, and broader strategic decision making.Director of FP&A: Executive-level position overseeing financial strategy, market conditions and reporting directly to the CFO or equivalent.
